Cartographie Participative (Partie 1 et 2)

Abstract : This document gathers the course materials for participatory mapping teaching from the Department of Geography of the University of Paris 8. The map is used to illustrate and explain geographical reasoning. While it has long been a monopoly of the State to control and develop the territory, it is competing with civil society maps to illustrate claims (disabled accessibility, alternative development project, etc.) or facilitate interventions (post-disaster mapping). Participatory, collaborative, community maps, which are developing largely thanks to new web mapping tools, are powerful tools for democratization and criticism. They make it possible to synthesize points of view, to illustrate the effects of a political decision, to highlight invisible social inequalities, to report on alternative and poorly listened to projects. They facilitate consultation and citizen participation in planning decisions.
