Parameter Exploration and Virtual Environment as Tools to Man-Machine Design

Abstract : Human factors are becoming increasingly important in designing new working environments to improve the operator’s performances and working conditions. The lack of digital models to facilitate rapid, cost-effective and reliable implementation in industry led us to create and validate a model with human measures. This paper proposes a new approach based on parameter exploration and Virtual Reality (VR) experiment to enhance “users” (i.e. workers) activity. In the industrial context, the application of our work aims to facilitate user’s acceptance through processes of self-involvement and to improve the design of work environments in an efficient, cost-effective and reliable way.
