Robust control for the air path of a downsized engine

This paper presents a simple method for designing a robust controller that can be used on non-linear systems, here the air path of a downsized engine. This computationally inexpensive controller is thus obtained faster and more systematically than the usual look-up-table-based controllers. The successive steps of the method are: system identification, system normalization and linearization, nominal model design, model uncertainty design, and controller design with property verification. This robust controller is applied to the air path of a downsized spark ignition engine, i.e. intake manifold pressure control and boost pressure control.
