We consider the inverse boundary value problem arising from the equation of heat conduction. By using complex spherical waves, we give a mathematical theory and algorithm for probing the discontinuous part of the conductivity from the local boundary measurement without using knowledge of the initial data. We also give results on the numerical computation.
