Three-dimensional analysis of piled-raft foundations using a multiphase approach

Finite element simulations of the behavior of a piled raft foundation have been carried out using a multiphase model conceived as an extended homogenization method. With this approach, it is not necessary to include in the mesh specific finite elements to account for the piles, that are seen as a part of a homogeneous equivalent material. The model makes it possible to describe the mechanical interaction between the ground and the piles, by means of two scalar parameters (one stiffness parameter and one representing the maximum ground-pile friction). We discuss the application of the model to piled raft foundations, then compare the results obtained with previous numerical simulations
