Introduction
Xavier Bougarel 1, Elissa Helms, Ger Duijzings
(2007)

This introduction shows how the focus on the Dayton Peace Agreement and its (non-)implementation distorts the perception of Bosnian post-war social and political realities. It offers instead an approach "from below", putting the emphasis on the emergence of war-related social identities and conflicts, the clash of various collective or individual memories, and the complex interaction between local and international actors. It underlines also the pervasiveness of moral claims and categories in a post-war context, and their importance in the re-establishment of a shared political community.
