ETUDE DES INTERACTIONS ENTRE SILICIUM LIQUIDE ET GRAPHITE POUR APPLICATION À L' ÉLABORATION DU SILICIUM PHOTOVOLTAÏQUE R. Israel L'objectif de ce travail a été de proposer une méthode permettant d'augmenter la résistance à l'oxydation et à la corrosion par Si liquide des creusets de graphite utilisés dans la purification de Si métallurgique pour obtenir Si de qualité photovoltaïque. La Thèse est constituée de deux parties. Dans la première partie, nous étudions les interactions capillaires (mouillage, infiltration, réactivité) Si/graphite, et l'effet de ces interactions sur la pollution de Si et sur l'intégrité mécanique du graphite. Dans la deuxième partie nous mettons au point un traitement de siliciuration du graphite et nous montrons que ce traitement confère au graphite une résistance remarquable à l'oxydation à haute température

Revêtements sol-gel TiO2-SiO2 naturellement super-hydrophiles visant à développer des surfaces à nettoyabilité accrue M. Houmard L'ajustement adéquat de formulations sol-gel et de leurs compositions en TiO2 et SiO2 a conduit à des revêtements composites TiO2-SiO2 naturellement super-hydrophiles et présentant une persistance optimale de leur super-hydrophilie en l'absence de rayonnement UV. Cette persistance optimale est également corrélée à une facilité accrue de photo-régénération de la super-hydrophilie, par une courte exposition UV, lorsque cette propriété finit par disparaître au cours d'un vieillissement prolongé. Des adaptations spécifiques des protocoles expérimentaux montrent également qu'il est possible d'extrapoler ces performances de mouillage à toutes sortes de supports, non seulement des supports en acier inoxydable, mais aussi des supports à faible tenue thermique (par exemple des polymères ou textiles peuvent être envisagés). Des études physico-chimiques et morphologiques indiquent que, si des effets de porosité et rugosité de surface ne sont pas à exclure, les performances de mouillage des revêtements composites découlent probablement avant tout d'effets d'interfaces granulaires TiO2-SiO2. Cette hypothèse semble en partie confirmée par des premières mesures de forces superficielles par AFM en milieu aqueux et de mouillabilité à pH variable. Les travaux mettent également en évidence un parallèle entre la lipophilie et l'hydrophilie de surface de différents films sol-gel. Bien que de façon générale ce parallèle ne plaide pas en faveur d'une nettoyabilité accrue de la surface revêtue, des tests de nettoyabilité statique et dynamique montrent finalement que, du fait de leur forte composante polaire d'énergie de surface, les revêtements composites super-hydrophiles favorisent un dégraissage aisé des surfaces polluées à l'huile minérale ou végétale, ce qui valide définitivement le concept de surfaces à nettoyabilité accrue. Des approches théoriques ont également été régulièrement proposées et permettent de justifier en grande partie les comportements de mouillage à l'eau ou à l'huile observés sur les revêtements faisant l'objet de ce travail.

Flexible relaxor materials: Ba2PrxNd1−xFeNb4O15 tetragonal tungsten bronze solid solution Elias Castel et al. Relaxors are very interesting materials but most of the time they are restricted to perovskite materials and thus their flexibility is limited. We have previously shown that tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) niobate Ba2PrFeNb4O15 was a relaxor below 170 K and that Ba2NdFeNb4O15 displays a ferroelectric behavior with a TC = 323 K. On scanning the whole solid solution Ba2PrxNd1−xFeNb4O15 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8 and 1), we demonstrate here a continuous crossover between these end member behaviors with a coexistence of ferroelectricity and relaxor in the intermediate range. This tunability is ascribed to the peculiar structure of the TTB networks which is more open than the classical perovskites. This allows for the coexistence of long range and short range orders and thus opens up the range of relaxor materials.

A wireless lingual feedback device to reduce overpressures in seated posture: a feasibility study. Olivier Chenu et al. BACKGROUND: Pressure sores are localized injuries to the skin and underlying tissues and are mainly resulting from overpressure. Paraplegic peoples are particularly subjects to pressure sores because of long-time seated postures and sensory deprivation at the lower limbs. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here we report outcomes of a feasibility trial involving a biofeedback system aimed at reducing buttock overpressure whilst an individual is seated. The system consists of (1) pressure sensors, (2) a laptop coupling sensors and actuator (3) a wireless Tongue Display Unit (TDU) consisting of a circuit embedded in a dental retainer with electrodes put in contact with the tongue. The principle consists in (1) detecting overpressures in people who are seated over long periods of time, (2) estimating a postural change that could reduce these overpressures and (3) communicating this change through directional information transmitted by the TDU. Twenty-four healthy subjects voluntarily participated in this study. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: The findings suggest that, in this trial, subjects were able to use a tongue tactile feedback system to reduce buttock overpressure while seated. Further evaluation of this system on paraplegic subjects remains to be done.

Contextual effects on protrusion and lip opening for /i,y/ Anne Bonneau et al. This study investigates the effect of “adverse” contexts, especially that of the consonant /ʃ/, on labial parameters for French /i,y/. Five parameters were analysed: the height, width and area of lip opening, the distance between the corners of the mouth, as well as lip protrusion. Ten speakers uttered a corpus made up of isolated vowels, syllables and logatoms. A special procedure has been designed to evaluate lip opening contours. Results showed that the carry-over effect of the consonant /ʃ/ can impede the opposition between /i/ and /y/ in the protrusion dimension, depending upon speakers.

Modèle a contrario pour la mise en correspondance robuste sous contraintes épipolaires et photométriques Nicolas Noury et al. La mise en correspondance de points d'intérêt entre deux vues est une des étapes clés en vision par ordinateur, en particulier dans l'analyse de la structure et du mouvement. Après l'extraction de points d'intérêt, deux étapes sont généralement mises en oeuvre : la mise en correspondance de ceux-ci en gardant les "meilleurs appariements" selon une mesure de ressemblance photométrique adaptée, puis la sélection des appariements cohérents avec la géométrie induite par le mouvement de la caméra. La présence de motifs répétés, ou des forts changements de point de vue peuvent générer de nombreux appariements aberrants. Nous présentons une méthode a contrario étendant celle de Moisan et Stival, qui regroupe ces deux étapes. L'approche proposée ne nécessite pas de paramètre critique et permet un gain significatif en nombre d'appariements obtenus et en précision, en particulier en présence de motifs répétés ou de forts changements des points de vue.

Efficient normalization by evaluation Mathieu Boespflug Dependently typed theorem provers allow arbitrary terms in types. It is convenient to identify large classes of terms during type checking, hence many such systems provision some form of conversion rule. A standard algorithm for testing the convertibility of two types consists in normalizing them, then testing for syntactic equality of the normal forms. Normalization by evaluation is a standard technique enabling the use of existing compilers and runtimes for functional languages to implement normalizers, without peaking under the hood, for a fast yet cheap system in terms of implementation effort. Our focus is on performance of untyped normalization by evaluation. We demonstrate that with the aid of a standard optimization for higher order programs (namely uncurrying) and the reuse of pattern matching facilities of the evaluator for datatypes, we may obtain a normalizer that evaluates non-functional values about as fast as the underlying evaluator, but as an added benefit can also fully normalize functional values — or to put it another way, partially evaluates functions efficiently.

3D-BLAST: 3D PROTEIN STRUCTURE ALIGNMENT, COMPARISON, AND CLASSIFICATION USING SPHERICAL POLAR FOURIER CORRELATIONS Lazaros Mavridis et al. This paper presents a novel sequence-independent method of aligning protein structures using three-dimensional spherical polar Fourier (SPF) representations of protein shape. The approach is demonstrated by clustering subsets of the CATH database for each of the four main CATH fold types, and by searching the entire CATH database of some 12,000 structures using several protein structures as queries. Overall, the automatic SPF clustering approach agrees very well with the expert-curated CATH classification, and ROC plot analyses of the database searches show that the approach has very high precision and recall. Database query times can be reduced considerably by using a simple rotationally-invariant pre-filter in tandem with a more sensitive rotational search with little or no reduction in accuracy. Hence it should soon be possible to perform on-line 3D structural searches in interactive time-scales.

Distributed Call Scheduling in Wireless Networks Jean-Claude Bermond et al. This work investigates distributed transmission scheduling in wireless networks. Due to interference constraints, "neighboring links'' cannot be simultaneously activated, otherwise transmissions will fail. Here, we consider any binary model of interference. We follow the model described by Bui, Sanghavi, and Srikant in SBS09,SBS07. We suppose that time is slotted and during each slot we have two phases: one control phase which determines what links will be activated and send data during the second phase. We assume random arrivals on each link during each slot, therefore a queue is associated to each link. Since nodes do not have a global knowledge of the network, our aim (like in SBS09,SBS07) is to design for the control phase, a distributed algorithm which determines a set of non interfering links. To be efficient the control phase should be as short as possible; this is done by exchanging control messages during a constant number of mini-slots (constant overhead). In this article we design the first fully distributed local algorithm with the following properties: it works for any arbitrary binary interference model; it has a constant overhead (independent of the size of the network and the values of the queues); and it needs no knowledge. Indeed contrary to other existing algorithms, we do not need to know the values of the queues of the "neighboring links'', which are difficult to obtain in a wireless network with interference. We prove that this algorithm gives a maximal set of active links (in each interference set, there is at least one active edge). We also give sufficient conditions for stability under Markovian assumptions. Finally the performance of our algorithm (throughput, stability) is investigated and compared via simulations to that of previously proposed schemes.

Towards a footwear design tool : Influence of shoe midsole properties and ground stiffness on the impact force during running Quoc Hung Ly et al. Several spring-damper-mass models of the human body have been developed in order to reproduce the measured ground vertical reaction forces during human running (McMahon and Cheng, 1990; Ferris and Farley, 1999; Liu and Nigg, 2000). In particular, Liu and Nigg introduced at the lower level of their model, i.e. at the interface between the human body and the ground, a nonlinear element representing simultaneously the shoe mid-soles and the ground flexibility. The ground reaction force is modelled as the force supported by this nonlinear element, whose parameters are identified from several sets of experimental data. This approach proved to be robust and quite accurate. However, it does not explicitly take into account the shoe and the ground properties. It turns out to be impossible to study the influence of shoe materials on the impact force, for instance for footwear design purposes. In this paper, a modification of the Liu and Nigg's model is suggested, where the original nonlinear element is replaced with a bi-layered spring-damper-mass model: the first layer represents the shoe mid-sole and the second layer is associated with the ground. Ground is modeled as an infinite elastic half-space. We have assumed a visco-elastic behaviour of the shoe material, so the damping of shoe material is taken into account. A methodology for the shoe soles characterization is proposed and used together with the proposed model. A parametric study is then conducted and the influence of the shoe properties on the impact force is quantified. Moreover, it is shown that impact forces are strongly affected by the ground stiffness, which should therefore be considered as an essential parameter in the footwear design.

Inversion bayésienne myope et non-supervisée pour l'imagerie sur-résolue. Application à l'instrument SPIRE de l'observatoire spatial Herschel. François Orieux Les travaux concernent le traitement de données pour l'imagerie sur-résolue avec une application en astronomie. On s'intéresse en particulier aux données issues de l'instrument SPIRE de l'observatoire spatial Herschel de l'ESA, dédié aux infrarouges lointains. Les problèmes soulevés sont principalement : la réponse de l'optique qui atténue les fréquences spatiales, le sous-échantillonnage ainsi que la présence d'une dérive thermique. L'approche proposée est l'inversion de données, c'est à dire la prise en compte du processus d'acquisition en plus d'information a priori, pour estimer le ciel d'intérêt. La première partie des travaux concerne la modélisation du processus d'acquisition des données. Le modèle est composé d'une optique, de filtres en longueur d'onde, du capteur sensible à la température à base de bolomètres ainsi que du protocole de pointage. Le modèle obtenu, linéaire mais non invariant à cause de l'échantillonnage, est étudié. Des propriétés intéressantes, notamment dans une perspective de traitement de données, sont dégagées en particulier en lien avec la sur-résolution. L'analyse du modèle permet également de faire ressortir des propriétés utiles pour un algorithmique de calcul. La deuxième partie des travaux repose sur une démarche d'inférence inscrite dans le formalisme bayésien usuel. Toute l'information ne passant pas à travers l'instrument ou étant dégradée, le problème inverse est mal-conditionné. La méthode employée, en plus de formaliser une information de régularité spatiale sur le ciel permettant de lever le problème de conditionnement, propose l'estimation des paramètres des lois réglant le compromis entre les différentes sources d'information (hyper-paramètres). De plus, l'approche proposée permet l'estimation de paramètres instruments ainsi que l'estimation d'une dérive thermique lente affectant l'ensemble du capteur conjointement aux autres paramètres. L'ensemble de l'information utilisée pour résoudre le problème est formalisé au travers d'une loi a posteriori jointe pour l'ensemble des inconnues. L'estimateur choisi est la moyenne a posteriori calculée par un algorithme MCMC. Une étude expérimentale démontre la capacité de la méthode à restaurer de hautes fréquences spatiales. L'étude montre également le potentiel de l'approche pour l'estimation des hyper-paramètres et des paramètres instruments.

A Majorize-Minimize line search algorithm for barrier functions Emilie Chouzenoux et al. Criteria containing a barrier function i.e., an unbounded function at the boundary of the feasible solution domain are frequently encountered in the optimization framework. When an iterative descent method is used, a search along the line supported by the descent direction through the minimization of the underlying scalar function has to be performed at each iteration. Usual line search strategies use an iterative procedure to propose a stepsize value ensuring the fulfillment of sufficient convergence conditions. The iterative scheme is classically based on backtracking, dichotomy, polynomial interpolations or quadratic majorization of the scalar function. However, since the barrier function introduces a singularity in the criterion, classical line search procedures tend to be inefficient. In this paper we propose a majorization-based line search procedure by deriving a nonquadratic form of a majorant function well suited to approximate a criterion containing a barrier term. Furthermore, we establish the convergence of classical descent algorithms when this strategy is employed. The efficiency of the proposed line search strategy is illustrated by means of numerical examples in the field of signal and image processing.

Detrital-zircon ages and geochemistry of sedimentary rocks in basement Mesozoic terranes and their cover rocks in New Caledonia, and provenances at the Eastern Gondwanaland margin C.J. Adams et al. Geochemical and Sr-Nd isotope data for Mesozoic greywackes of New Caledonia terranes, indicate a forearc tectonic environment at the Eastern Gondwanaland margin, but they support only minor continental influences. Detrital-zircon U-Pb age patterns for the greywackes in these terranes similarly reflect an active-margin tectonic environment of Late Triassic, Late Jurassic, and in particular mid-Cretaceous, depocentres which comprise much contemporaneous volcanic detritus, but also include minor sediment inputs from Precambrian-Early Paleozoic continental clastic rocks. The contemporary volcanic sources are probably now hidden within a former hinterland to New Caledonia, such as Lord Howe Rise or Marion Plateau. The older, continental sediment sources were probably in northeasternmost Queensland, and beyond the northern extremity of the New England Orogen. Such sediments could have been supplied on long rivers, and submarine longshore current systems outboard of the orogen. Alternatively, the depocentres could have been consolidated close to the contemporary Gondwanaland margin and then tectonically transported, as suspect terranes, southwards in Early Cretaceous times to their present New Caledonia position.

Las reservas de la biosfera son una categoría propuesta por la UNESCO que define territorios destinados a conciliar la protección de la naturaleza con el desarrollo de las actividades antrópicas. Estos espacios incluyen normalmente tres elementos: una o varias superficies centrales que se benefician de una protección a largo plazo y permiten conservar la diversidad biológica; una zona tampón bien identificada que rodea o limita las superficies centrales utilizadas para actividades compatibles con prácticas ecológicamente viables; y una zona de transición flexible, que puede incluir una serie de actividades agrícolas, de establecimiento humano u otras explotaciones, y en la cual las comunidades locales y el conjunto de los protagonistas del territorio trabajan juntos para administrar y desarrollar sustentablemente los recursos de la región. Al asociar las superficies protegidas y su entorno, se trata de un dispositivo coherente con las recomendaciones de la Convención de Río sobre la diversidad biológica. Se trata de un marco no vinculante, lo que implica en cada país un trabajo de adaptación, sea transfiriendo el concepto en la legislación nacional, sea articulando de manera flexible los instrumentos existentes, como es el caso en Francia y en Chile

Révision du genre Theotimius Huchet, 2000 (Coleoptera : Scarabaeoidea : Chironidae) Jean-Bernard Huchet La révision systématique du genre afrotropical Theotimius Huchet, 2000 est présentée et illustrée. Ce genre se révèle morphologiquement très distinct des autres genres de Chironidae notamment par une taille constamment forte, le labre simplement émarginé, la tête trituberculée, l'absence de machrochètes aux angles antérieurs du clypéus et à la base des joues, enfin par la conformation du sac interne sans pièces copulatrices. La diagnose générique publiée précédemment (Huchet 2000) est complétée par des données morphologiques inédites : structure oculaire, métendosternite, intersegmentalia, stigmates mésothoraciques et abdominaux, genitalia femelles. Afin de clarifier la nomenclature, un néotype et un lectotype sont respectivement désignés pour Chiron grandis Gory, 1830 et Chiron patrizii Boucomont, 1923. Une nouvelle espèce du sous-genre Amaecylius Huchet 2000 est décrite d'Angola : T. (A.) angolensis n. sp. En raison de leur utilité taxonomique, la partie apicale du lobe médian (mâles) ainsi que les épipleurites du IXe segment abdominal (femelles) sont illustrés. Une clé de détermination des sous-genres et espèces ainsi qu'une carte de répartition géographique sont données.

Des données inédites sur le genre sont introduites (structure oculaire, métendosternite, intersegmentalia, stigmates mésothoraciques et abdominaux). L'étude de la morphologie des pièces copulatrices du sac interne (endophallus) montre des différences constantes entre les espèces pouvant être avantageusement utilisées dans la systématique interne du genre. Une terminologie adaptée à la structure de ces sclérites est proposée. Une clé de détermination bilingue ainsi que des cartes de répartition géographique des espèces sont données. Three new species and one subspecies: A. argonautes n. sp., A. karooensis n. sp., A. arrowi n. sp. and A. arrowi crypticus n. subsp. are described. The original diagnosis of Amphiceratodon is completed with new original data (ocular structure, metendosternite, intersegmentalia, mesothoracic and abdominal spiracles). This study proves that the sclerotised parts of the internal sac (endophallus) in males have a high taxonomic value in the distinction between species. A terminology applies to the structure of these sclerites is proposed. A bilingual key of determination and geographical distribution maps are done.

Self-stabilizing processes: uniqueness problem for stationary measures and convergence rate in the small noise limit Samuel Herrmann et al. In the context of self-stabilizing processes, that is processes attracted by their own law, leaving in some potential landscape, we investigate different properties of the invariant measures. The interaction between the process and its law leads to nonlinear stochastic differential equations. In some previous work, the authors proved that, for linear interaction and under suitable conditions, there exist some unique symmetric limit measure associated to the set of invariant measures in the small noise limit. The aim of this study is essentially to point out that this statement leads to the existence, as the noise intensity is small, of one unique symmetric invariant measure for the self-stabilizing process. Informations about the asymmetric measures shall be presented too. The main key consists in estimating the convergence rate for sequences of stationary measures using generalized Laplace's method approximations.

Regularity of solutions to the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff Yoshinori Morimoto et al. Most of the work on the Boltzmann equation is based on the Grad's angular cutoff assumption. Even though the smoothing effect from the singular cross-section without the angular cutoff corresponding to the grazing collision is expected, there is no general mathematical theory especially for the spatially inhomogeneous case. As a further study on the problem in the spatially homogeneous situation, in this paper, we will prove the Gevrey smoothing property of the solutions to the Cauchy problem for Maxwellian molecules without angular cutoff by using pseudo-differential calculus. Furthermore, we apply similar analytic techniques for the Sobolev space regularity to the nonlinear equation, and prove the smoothing property of solutions for the spatially homogeneous nonlinear Boltzmann equation with the Debye-Yukawa potential.

Dissipative stochastic evolution equations driven by general Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise Stefano Bonaccorsi et al. We study a class of stochastic evolution equations with a dissipative forcing nonlinearity and additive noise. The noise is assumed to satisfy rather general assumptions about the form of the covariance function; our framework covers examples of Gaussian processes, like fractional and bifractional Brownian motion and also non Gaussian examples like the Hermite process. We give an application of our results to the study of the stochastic version of a common model of potential spread in a dendritic tree. Our investigation is specially motivated by possibility to introduce long-range dependence in time of the stochastic perturbation.

Emotion: appraisal-coping model for the "Cascades" problem Karim Mahboub et al. Modelling emotion has become a challenge nowadays. Therefore, several models have been produced in order to express human emotional activity. However, only a few of them are currently able to express the close relationship existing between emotion and cognition. An appraisal-coping model is presented here, with the aim to simulate the emotional impact caused by the evaluation of a particular situation (appraisal), along with the consequent cognitive reaction intended to face the situation (coping). This model is applied to the “Cascades” problem, a small arithmetical exercice designed for ten-year-old pupils. The goal is to create a model corresponding to a child's behaviour when solving the problem using his own strategies.

Control on System Diffusion Using Genetic Automata Luaï Jaff et al. Complex systems \citep{Moigne1999} are models which describe dynamic organizations or systems where the internal interaction network between their components does not allow the control of individual components with efficience. In a lot of cases, the individual control leads to break the whole structure itself. In other cases, some complex systems exhibit resilience properties which lead them to recover their initial state after small perturbations or individual controls. Controlling complex systems need to not trying to manage the individual controls but to manage the global control, guiding the whole system without directly act on individuals themselves. The study presented in this paper explains how to control a high level system property, the diffusive behavior, by spectral analysis over genetic automata. First experiments are presented using MuPad implementation.

Towards a footwear design tool : Influence of shoe midsole properties and ground stiffness on the impact force during running Quoc Hung Ly et al. Several spring-damper-mass models of the human body have been developed in order to reproduce the measured ground vertical reaction forces during human running (McMahon and Cheng, 1990; Ferris and Farley, 1999; Liu and Nigg, 2000). In particular, Liu and Nigg introduced at the lower level of their model, i.e. at the interface between the human body and the ground, a nonlinear element representing simultaneously the shoe mid-soles and the ground flexibility. The ground reaction force is modelled as the force supported by this nonlinear element, whose parameters are identified from several sets of experimental data. This approach proved to be robust and quite accurate. However, it does not explicitly take into account the shoe and the ground properties. It turns out to be impossible to study the influence of shoe materials on the impact force, for instance for footwear design purposes. In this paper, a modification of the Liu and Nigg's model is suggested, where the original nonlinear element is replaced with a bi-layered spring-damper-mass model: the first layer represents the shoe mid-sole and the second layer is associated with the ground. Ground is modeled as an infinite elastic half-space. We have assumed a visco-elastic behaviour of the shoe material, so the damping of shoe material is taken into account. A methodology for the shoe soles characterization is proposed and used together with the proposed model. A parametric study is then conducted and the influence of the shoe properties on the impact force is quantified. Moreover, it is shown that impact forces are strongly affected by the ground stiffness, which should therefore be considered as an essential parameter in the footwear design.

Double diffraction in an atomic gravimeter Nicola Malossi et al. We demonstrate the realization of a new scheme for cold atom gravimetry based on the use of double diffraction beamsplitters recently demonstrated in \cite{Leveque}, where the use of two retro-reflected Raman beams allows symmetric diffraction in $\pm \hbar k_{eff}$ momenta. Though in principle restricted to the case of zero Doppler shift, for which the two pairs of Raman beams are simultaneously resonant, we demonstrate that such diffraction pulses can remain efficient on atoms with non zero velocity, such as in a gravimeter, when modulating the frequency of one of the two Raman laser sources. We use such pulses to realize an interferometer insensitive to laser phase noise and some of the dominant systematics. This reduces the technical requirements and would allow the realization of a simple atomic gravimeter. We demonstrate a sensitivity of $1.2\times10^{-7}g$ per shot.

Instantons revisited: dynamical tunnelling and resonant tunnelling Jérémy Le Deunff et al. Starting from trace formulae for the tunnelling splittings (or decay rates) analytically continued in the complex time domain, we obtain explicit semiclassical expansions in terms of complex trajectories that are selected with appropriate complex-time paths. We show how this instanton-like approach, which takes advantage of an incomplete Wick rotation, accurately reproduces tunnelling effects not only in the usual double-well potential but also in situations where a pure Wick rotation is insufficient, for instance dynamical tunnelling or resonant tunnelling. Even though only one-dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian systems are quantitatively studied, we discuss the relevance of our method for multidimensional and/or chaotic tunnelling.

Credit derivatives: instruments of hedging and factors of instability. The example of “Credit Default Swaps” on French reference entities. Nathalie Rey Through a long-period analysis of the inter-temporal relations between the French markets for credit default swaps (CDS), shares and bonds between 2001 and 2008, this article shows how a financial innovation like CDS could heighten financial instability. After describing the operating principles of credit derivatives in general and CDS in particular, we construct two difference VAR models on the series: the share return rates, the variation in bond spreads and the variation in CDS spreads for thirteen French companies, with the aim of bringing to light the relations between these three markets. According to these models, there is indeed an interdependence between the French share, CDS and bond markets, with a strong influence of the share market on the other two. This interdependence increases during periods of tension on the markets (2001-2002, and since the summer of 2007).

Les Générateurs de Scénarios Économiques : quelle utilisation en assurance ? Alaeddine Faleh et al. Dans cet article, nous mettons en évidence les principales composantes d'un générateur de scénarios économiques (GSE) que ce soit au niveau de sa conception théorique ou au niveau de sa mise en oeuvre pratique. Le choix de ces composantes est supposé être lié à la vocation finale du générateur de scénarios économiques que ce soit en tant qu'outil d'évaluation des produits financiers (pricing) ou en tant qu'outil de projection et de gestion des risques. Par ailleurs, nous développons une étude sur certains indicateurs de mesure de la performance du GSE comme un outil en amont du processus de prise de décision : à savoir la stabilité et l'absence de biais. Une application numérique permettant d'illustrer ces différents points est présentée à la fin.

Coupling Index and Stocks Benjamin Jourdain et al. In this paper, we are interested in continuous time models in which the index level induces some feedback on the dynamics of its composing stocks. More precisely, we propose a model in which the log-returns of each stock may be decomposed into a systemic part proportional to the log-returns of the index plus an idiosyncratic part. We show that, when the number of stocks in the index is large, this model may be approximated by a local volatility model for the index and a stochastic volatility model for each stock with volatility driven by the index. This result is useful in a calibration perspective : it suggests that one should first calibrate the local volatility of the index and then calibrate the dynamics of each stock. We explain how to do so in the limiting simplified model and in the original model.

Inversion bayésienne myope et non-supervisée pour l'imagerie sur-résolue. Application à l'instrument SPIRE de l'observatoire spatial Herschel. François Orieux Les travaux concernent le traitement de données pour l'imagerie sur-résolue avec une application en astronomie. On s'intéresse en particulier aux données issues de l'instrument SPIRE de l'observatoire spatial Herschel de l'ESA, dédié aux infrarouges lointains. Les problèmes soulevés sont principalement : la réponse de l'optique qui atténue les fréquences spatiales, le sous-échantillonnage ainsi que la présence d'une dérive thermique. L'approche proposée est l'inversion de données, c'est à dire la prise en compte du processus d'acquisition en plus d'information a priori, pour estimer le ciel d'intérêt. La première partie des travaux concerne la modélisation du processus d'acquisition des données. Le modèle est composé d'une optique, de filtres en longueur d'onde, du capteur sensible à la température à base de bolomètres ainsi que du protocole de pointage. Le modèle obtenu, linéaire mais non invariant à cause de l'échantillonnage, est étudié. Des propriétés intéressantes, notamment dans une perspective de traitement de données, sont dégagées en particulier en lien avec la sur-résolution. L'analyse du modèle permet également de faire ressortir des propriétés utiles pour un algorithmique de calcul. La deuxième partie des travaux repose sur une démarche d'inférence inscrite dans le formalisme bayésien usuel. Toute l'information ne passant pas à travers l'instrument ou étant dégradée, le problème inverse est mal-conditionné. La méthode employée, en plus de formaliser une information de régularité spatiale sur le ciel permettant de lever le problème de conditionnement, propose l'estimation des paramètres des lois réglant le compromis entre les différentes sources d'information (hyper-paramètres). De plus, l'approche proposée permet l'estimation de paramètres instruments ainsi que l'estimation d'une dérive thermique lente affectant l'ensemble du capteur conjointement aux autres paramètres. L'ensemble de l'information utilisée pour résoudre le problème est formalisé au travers d'une loi a posteriori jointe pour l'ensemble des inconnues. L'estimateur choisi est la moyenne a posteriori calculée par un algorithme MCMC. Une étude expérimentale démontre la capacité de la méthode à restaurer de hautes fréquences spatiales. L'étude montre également le potentiel de l'approche pour l'estimation des hyper-paramètres et des paramètres instruments.

Detrital-zircon ages and geochemistry of sedimentary rocks in basement Mesozoic terranes and their cover rocks in New Caledonia, and provenances at the Eastern Gondwanaland margin C.J. Adams et al. Geochemical and Sr-Nd isotope data for Mesozoic greywackes of New Caledonia terranes, indicate a forearc tectonic environment at the Eastern Gondwanaland margin, but they support only minor continental influences. Detrital-zircon U-Pb age patterns for the greywackes in these terranes similarly reflect an active-margin tectonic environment of Late Triassic, Late Jurassic, and in particular mid-Cretaceous, depocentres which comprise much contemporaneous volcanic detritus, but also include minor sediment inputs from Precambrian-Early Paleozoic continental clastic rocks. The contemporary volcanic sources are probably now hidden within a former hinterland to New Caledonia, such as Lord Howe Rise or Marion Plateau. The older, continental sediment sources were probably in northeasternmost Queensland, and beyond the northern extremity of the New England Orogen. Such sediments could have been supplied on long rivers, and submarine longshore current systems outboard of the orogen. Alternatively, the depocentres could have been consolidated close to the contemporary Gondwanaland margin and then tectonically transported, as suspect terranes, southwards in Early Cretaceous times to their present New Caledonia position.

Modélisation de l'émission micro-onde du manteau neigeux: applications en Antarctique et au Québec Ludovic Brucker La cryosphère a un rôle essentiel dans le système climatique entre autre parce qu'elle réfléchit une fraction importante de l'énergie solaire parvenant à la surface de la Terre et qu'elle contient une grande quantité d'eau douce sous forme solide. Du fait de la grande sensibilité de la cryosphère aux variables climatiques comme la température et les précipitations, les différents éléments de la cryosphère, tels que la calotte polaire Antarctique et la neige saisonnière dans les régions subarctiques, sont des indicateurs du changement climatique global. Toutefois, nos connaissances des régions polaires restent limitées par un manque d'observation in situ qui s'explique par l'isolement de ces régions et les conditions météorologiques difficiles. L'analyse de ces observations éparses peut être renforcée grâce à la télédétection spatiale et ainsi réduire les incertitudes sur les tendances climatiques observées aux hautes latitudes. En effet, la télédétection permet des observations continues et à grande échelle des régions polaires et subpolaires. La télédétection passive, en particulier dans le domaine spectral des micro-ondes, est adaptée à l'interprétation et au suivi des propriétés physiques du manteau neigeux. Effectivement, le rayonnement micro-onde émane du sol ou du manteau neigeux lui-même, puis se propage jusqu'à la surface. Ainsi, le rayonnement émergeant contient de l'information sur les variations verticales des propriétés de la neige, telles que la température ou les propriétés de microstructure (taille de grains et densité). Ces trois propriétés de la neige déterminent l'émission micro-onde d'un manteau sec. Lorsqu'il est humide, la teneur en eau liquide devient par contre la propriété dominant l'émission. Les évolutions temporelles et les variations verticales de ces différentes propriétés sont définies par la métamorphose. Leur lien avec l'émission micro-onde est considéré dans le transfert radiatif. Cette thèse a pour objectif d'expliquer l'émission micro-onde de la neige par voie de modélisation afin de comprendre l'évolution des principales propriétés physiques de la neige. Le transfert radiatif dans la neige a été calculé avec les modèles multicouches Microwave Emission Model of Layered Snowpacks (MEMLS) et MultiLayered Dense Media Radiative Transfer (DMRT-ML), s'appuyant sur des approches respectivement semi-empirique et théorique. Les profils stratigraphiques de la neige utilisés en entrée ont été mesurés, estimés de façon aléatoire, modélisés avec une relation simple de la métamorphose ou avec le modèle d'évolution thermodynamique de la neige Crocus. Ces modèles et approches ont été appliqués sur deux types de manteau neigeux, permanent en Antarctique et saisonnier au Québec. Dans le premier cas, l'évolution temporelle de la température de brillance a été modélisée localement, à Dôme C, à partir de mesures in situ des propriétés de la neige. Dans cette approche, l'émissivité est modélisée à partir de mesures et reste par conséquent applicable localement. Pour modéliser l'émissivité à l'échelle de l'Antarctique, différents profils synthétiques de taille de grains et de densité ont été testés. Dans tous les cas, la variation verticale de la taille de grains est apparue déterminante pour prévoir l'émissivité en polarisation verticale. Cette sensibilité a été exploitée pour estimer à l'échelle du continent cette variable glaciologique importante. Le profil de densité et les propriétés de surface déterminent quant à eux l'écart entre les polarisations verticale et horizontale. L'émission micro-onde d'un manteau saisonnier au Québec a également été abordée. La spécificité de l'étude est de prévoir l'évolution temporelle de la température de brillance avec un modèle d'évolution thermodynamique de la neige couplé à un modèle de transfert radiatif micro-onde, ici Crocus-MEMLS. Cette approche a permis d'interpréter finement l'évolution temporelle des températures de brillance mesurées avec un radiomètre au sol et de mettre en doute certaines relations physiques du modèle Crocus. Les résultats ont mis en évidence la complexité du signal micro-onde pour des manteaux évoluant rapidement à des températures proches du point de fusion.

Convergence and performances of the peeling wavelet denoising algorithm Céline Lacaux et al. This note is devoted to an analysis of the so-called peeling algorithm in wavelet denoising. Assuming that the wavelet coefficients of the signal can be modeled by generalized Gaussian random variables, we compute a critical thresholding constant for the algorithm, which depends on the shape parameter of the generalized Gaussian distribution. We also quantify the optimal number of steps which have to be performed, and analyze the convergence of the algorithm. Several versions of the obtained algorithm were implemented and tested against classical wavelet denoising procedures on benchmark and simulated biological signals.

Kernel estimators of extreme level curves Abdelaati Daouia et al. We address the estimation of extreme level curves of heavy-tailed distributions. This problem is equivalent to estimating quantiles when covariate information is available and when their order converges to one as the sample size increases. We show that, under some conditions, these so-called ``extreme conditional quantiles'' can still be estimated through a kernel estimator of the conditional survival function. Sufficient conditions on the rate of convergence of their order to one are provided to obtain asymptotically Gaussian distributed estimators. Making use of this result, some kernel estimators of the conditional tail-index are introduced and a Weissman type estimator is derived, permitting to estimate extreme conditional quantiles of arbitrary large order. These results are illustrated through simulated and real datasets.

Ergodicity and Gaussianity for Spherical Random Fields Domenico Marinucci et al. We investigate the relationship between ergodicity and asymptotic Gaussianity of isotropic spherical random fields, in the high-resolution (or high-frequency) limit. In particular, our results suggest that under a wide variety of circumstances the two conditions are equivalent, i.e. the sample angular power spectrum may converge to the population value if and only if the underlying field is asymptotically Gaussian, in the high frequency sense. These findings may shed some light on the role of Cosmic Variance in Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation data analysis.
