The large scattering length of light in the deep sea facilitates an angular resolution of a few tenths of a degree for neutrino energies exceeding 10 TeV. In order to achieve this optimal performance, the time calibration procedures should ensure a relative time calibration between the photomultipliers at the level of ∼1ns. The methods developed to attain this level of precision are described. %G English %2 https://hal.science/hal-00722474/document %2 https://hal.science/hal-00722474/file/PEER_stage2_10.1016%252Fj.astropartphys.2010.12.004.pdf %L hal-00722474 %U https://hal.science/hal-00722474 %~ IN2P3 %~ IRD %~ OBSPM %~ CEA %~ INSU %~ UNICE %~ UNIV-PARIS7 %~ UPMC %~ PRES_CLERMONT %~ DRS-IPHC %~ CPPM %~ LPC-CLERMONT %~ APC %~ CNRS %~ UNIV-AMU %~ UNIV-BPCLERMONT %~ UNIV-PSUD %~ OCA %~ GEOAZUR %~ UNIV-STRASBG %~ UMS_COM %~ PEER %~ IPHC %~ DSM-IRFU %~ IRFU-APC %~ ACL-SF %~ PSL %~ UNIV-PARIS-SACLAY %~ UNIV-PSUD-SACLAY %~ UNIV-COTEDAZUR %~ CEA-DRF %~ SITE-ALSACE %~ SORBONNE-UNIVERSITE %~ UNIV-PARIS %~ UP-SCIENCES %~ OBSPM-PSL %~ SU-TI %~ ALLIANCE-SU %~ LABORATOIRES-UHA %~ UHA %~ CHERCHEURS-UHA-COTUTELLE %~ AUTRESUHA %~ UHA-IPHC
