We give a brief introduction to the subject and explain the main phenomenology encountered in glassy systems, with a particular emphasis on spatially heterogeneous dynamics. We review the main theoretical approaches currently available to account for these glassy phenomena, including recent developments regarding mean-field theory of liquids and glasses, novel computational tools, and connections to the jamming transition. Finally, the physics of aging and off-equilibrium dynamics exhibited by glassy materials is discussed. %G English %2 https://inria.hal.science/hal-02942375/document %2 https://inria.hal.science/hal-02942375/file/2020-REVIEW-glasses-2006.09725.pdf %L hal-02942375 %U https://inria.hal.science/hal-02942375 %~ ENS-PARIS %~ CNRS %~ INRIA %~ UNIV-PSUD %~ INRIA-SACLAY %~ INRIA_TEST %~ L2C %~ TESTALAIN1 %~ UMR8623 %~ CENTRALESUPELEC %~ INRIA2 %~ LRI-AO %~ PSL %~ UNIV-PARIS-SACLAY %~ UNIV-PSUD-SACLAY %~ UNIV-MONTPELLIER %~ SORBONNE-UNIVERSITE %~ SORBONNE-UNIV %~ LPENS %~ UNIV-PARIS %~ UNIVERSITE-PARIS %~ UP-SCIENCES %~ TEST-HALCNRS %~ ENS-PSL %~ UNIVERSITE-PARIS-SACLAY %~ SU-TI %~ LISN %~ GS-ENGINEERING %~ GS-COMPUTER-SCIENCE %~ GS-LIFE-SCIENCES-HEALTH %~ LISN-AO %~ ALLIANCE-SU %~ UM-2015-2021 %~ UM-EPE %~ INRIA-ETATSUNIS %~ INRIA-ROYAUMEUNI
