Enhancing the functionality of physical internet containers by wireless sensor networks

Résumé

The Physical Internet concept is designed and developed to address the unsustainability situation existing in current logistic systems. By analogizing with the Digital Internet, the Physical Internet paradigm does not deal directly with the goods but the Physical Internet containers (π-containers) which encapsulate the merchandises. The π-containers including transportation, handling and packaging containers are designed to be modular, reusable, smart and global standardized. This paper proposes a methodology to modelize dynamically the 3D layout of a composite π-container, from neighborhood information collected with sensor nodes embedded on each container. This layout allows viewing the assignment of unitary-containers at any process of the logistic operations. As a proof of concept, simulation results prove the feasibility of the methodology.
