Robert Lafont provided the Occitan movement with an analysis of the Occitan society in the middle of the XXth century through several articles and publications. The contribution analyzes the origin of the concept at the era of decolonization and scrutinizes its impact on the Occitan movement. It shows that soon after its formation, new economic developments of the Occitan regions did not fit well with the original analysis which should be revised.

Avec le concept de colonialisme intérieur, Robert Lafont a donné au mouvement occitan une grille d'analyse de la société occitane du milieu du 20e siècle. La communication étudie l'origine du concept au moment de la décolonisation et étudie son impact sur le mouvement occitan. Elle montre que peu après son élaboration, le développement économique des régions occitanes dans le cadre du capitalisme en voie de mondialisation ne rentrait plus dans le cadre proposé et que l'analyse originale devait être profondément remaniée
