L'islam comme contre-identification française: Trois moments

Islam has been taken as French outgroup for centuries. But this symbolic construction was secularized only in the middle of the xixth c., along with the imperial expansion, and then with the colonial ruling of Algeria. Current French islamophobia borrows features to both periods but it is not in simple continuity.
L'islam a été construit comme "outgroup" de l'identité française depuis des siècles. Mais c'est lors de l'expansion impériale au XIXème siècle que cette construction s'est laïcisée, puis avec la politique coloniale. L'islamophobie d'aujourd'hui a certains traits de l'une et l'autre périodes tout en étant spécifique.
