Kinetic Modelling and Residue Depletion of Drugs in Eggs
Résumé
For the purpose of describing the relation between plasma concentration of drugs and their deposition into eggs, a physiologically based pharmacokinetic model was developed. By incorporating the physiology of egg formation into the model, the transfer of drugs into the egg-white and egg-yolk could be described using rate constants. Using datasets from the literature, the model was used to describe concentrations in egg white and egg yolk of sulphanilamide, sulphaquinoxaline and pyrimethamine as a function of time. The model could be used as a tool to get insight into the properties of a drug that are responsible for its amount of residue in eggs, and could contribute to the design of critical studies for the determination of withdrawal periods for eggs.
