The relationship between the right to food and the trade of agricultural products - Reflections after the food crisis

The establishment of an instrumental channel that allows the State really to do all that is possible in terms of endowing the right to food with effectiveness has to be done, and by so doing move from ideas and theory to reality and concrete rights. Speculation on commodities is one of the causes of food insecurity and must be internationally regulated. What is sure and cannot be lost from sight is that all the prodding and efforts made to reinforce the right to food would be for naught unless the institutional system of the international community is reformed and made more efficient and effective.

La mise en œuvre du droit à l'alimentation peut passer par l'établissement d'une règle mettant réellement l'État en mesure d'assurer l'effectivité du droit à l'alimentation, afin que ce dernier ne soit plus un droit abstrait et idéalisé, mais un objectif concret et réalisé. La spéculation portant sur les matières premières agricoles compte parmi les causes de l'insécurité alimentaire et doit ainsi être encadrée internationalement. Il ne faut pas perdre de vue, à ce titre, que tous les efforts faits en direction du droit à l'alimentation seront vains si l'ensemble du système international n'est pas réformé et le droit international, renforcé.
