Résumé

1. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the functional efficiency of a probiotic strain Enterococcus faecium M 74 in feed mixture on selected biochemical, haematological and production parameters in blood of Isa Brown hens. 2. Feed mixture in the experimental group was enriched with probiotic preparation containing of 5x109 viable Enterococcus faecium M 74 per gram. Blood samples were collected during the egg laying period at weeks 5 (w5), 25 (w25), and 45 (w45). Hens' body weight, egg-laying intensity and egg weight were recorded every four weeks during the forty-eight week laying period. 3. Lower concentrations of total cholesterol as well as total lipids in blood plasma were observed in the experimental group at all sampling times when compared to their respective controls (P<0.05). Levels of triglycerides did not differ. Lower concentrations of plasma calcium were found in the experimental group at w5 and w45 (P<0.05). Concentration of inorganic phosphorus in the experimental group was higher at w25, however, it was lower at w45 (p<0.05 for both). Erythrocyte count was slightly higher in the experimental group at w25 and w45 (P<0.05) when compared to controls. Leukocyte counts were significantly lower in the experimental group at all sampling times (P<0.05). Lower values of haematocrit at w5 and w45 were observed in the experimental group (P<0.05) compared to controls. Slight positive effects of probiotic preparation on body weight, number of eggs and average egg weight were not statistically significant. 4. In conclusion, addition of probiotic strain Enterococcus faecium M 74 to the feed mixture of Isa Brown hens lowered cholesterol, lipids, calcium, leukocyte counts, and haematocrit values in blood plasma at least in two sampling times, while erythrocyte counts were increased. No significant effect of probiotic on triglyceride concentrations and egg production parameters was observed.
