Y a-t-il une exploitation spécifique du renne au Badegoulien entre Charente et Quercy ?

The Badegoulien, which had a limited geographic and chronological extension, was one of the last techno-complexes of the Upper Palaeolithic to occur during a stable and relatively cold climate. From the Charente to the Quercy region, the available data on hunted faunas show that reindeer played a primordial role. These data allow us to formulate a methodology, integrating multiple archaeological disciplines, for regional comparisons between sites. The apparently incomplete nature of faunal assemblages collected from ancient excavations does not allow a palethnographical approach. However, a few recently excavated archaeological sites provide abundant information concerning the choice of game and their means of exploitation. Through an integrated archaeozoological and technological analysis of osseous materials, we have recognized three elements that are specific to the Bagedoulien in south-western France : a selection of species that are smaller or equal in size to reindeer, the use of spongy bone as back-up fuel and the breaking-up of reindeer antlers by fracturing.
De faible extension spatiale et chronologique, le Badegoulien est l'un des derniers techno-complexes du Paléolithique supérieur à prendre place au sein d'un climat stable relativement froid. De la Charente au Quercy, les données disponibles sur la faune chassée montrent que le renne y joue un rôle primordial et permettent de jeter les bases méthodologiques d'une comparaison régionale intersites qui intègre tous les champs disciplinaires. Les séries fauniques récoltées anciennement apparaissent trop tronquées pour une approche palethnographique. Quelques gisements fouillés récemment fournissent d'abondantes informations quant au choix des gibiers et à leur mode d'exploitation. L'analyse croisée archéozoologie/technologie des matières dures d'origine animale permet de reconnaître au moins trois éléments particulièrement présents au Badegoulien dans le sud-ouest de la France : le choix d'espèces de taille inférieure ou égale au renne, l'utilisation de l'os spongieux comme combustible d'appoint, le débitage du bois de renne par fracturation.
