Plane wave propagation and normal transmission and reflection at discontinuity surfaces in second gradient 3D Continua

We study propagation of plane waves in second gradient solids and their reflection and transmission at plane displacement discontinuity surfaces where many boundary layer phenomena may occur. Second gradient elastic moduli determine how planar waves behave at discontinuity surfaces. We explicitly remark that reflection and transmission coefficients which we have estimated show also a signicant dependence on frequency: therefore the novel results presented can be the basis of effective experimental procedures to estimate some among these moduli.
