Une lecture des dynamiques territoriales par la publicisation/privatisation des espaces agricoles périurbains
Résumé
Starting with a description of the farming dynamics of a French administrative organization of municipalities, “la communauté de communes du Pays de Lunel” in the south of France, this paper discusses the processes of publicization vs privitization of public spaces as a new analysis of farming land on the fringes of urban communities. The process of “publicization” of spaces is an extension of the public sphere – communicative and oppositional – and of the public spaces themselves. This process is inseparable from its inverse dynamic, the process of “privatization” of spaces which is also observed in the projects in Lunel. Finally, the analysis of the process of publicization demands a re-assessment of what constitutes a shared commodity and whether farming land on the fringes of urban communities can be included in this definition. The change in the status of these spaces has multiple consequences for their sustainable management in the context of the future of our ever more urbanized planet.
