A volume scattering model in the time domain: bistatic scattering tank experiment comparison

A novel volume scattering model in the time domain is presented here. It includes a small perturbation and discrete volume scattering based on the BORIS3D model. The model is able to simulate, given a source pulse, source and receiver beam patterns and positions and sediment properties, the scattered echo in the time domain. Simulations of the model are compared with time domain tank experimental data obtained at the CNRS/LMA Laboratory (Marseille) using a silicone plate in which 10% in volume is made of 1 mm glass spheres (with a source pulse center frequency of 500 kHz). The plate is well known and the experiment described here concerns particularly the time domain description of the scattered echo. In another publication we described the very good agreement between the model and the data backscattering echo: here we give the results obtained in the forward direction in both specular and non specular scattering angles. The results of this study show, again, a very good agreement between simulated and experimental data in both amplitude and time evolution shape.
