Étude pondérale des litières d'arbres dans deux types de forêts tropophiles en Côte d'Ivoire
Résumé
Annual litter-fall has been measured in two tropophilous forests in Ivory Coast. The first station, in Lamto (50 02' W, 6013' N), is located in a Celtis spp. - Triplochiton scleroxylon semi-deciduous forest. The second station, in Ouango-Fitini (60 01' W, 9°35' N), belongs to the group of Anogeissus leiocarpus dry deciduous forest. In spite of a longer dry period in Ouango-Fitini, the leaf-fall is similar for the two stations. This probably results from the equivalence of the amount of light available during the growing season, due to a more cloudy climate in Lamto. In the drier forest, relatively more bark and reproductive organs are produced annually. It is suggested that this may partially explain why the dry forest is comparatively lower than the moist forest. The rate of litter disappearance, specially the rate of wood disappearance, is higher in the dry forest. That is presumably due to termites.
