Directivity of a simplified aeroengine

Résumé

This paper presents theoretical and numerical results on the high frequency directivity of an aeroengine under flight conditions. In this paper, two different theories, based on a Kirchhoff approximation for semi-infinite cylinders, are combined to obtain the far field sound pressure radiated into the whole surrounding space. Although the geometric description of the engine is simplified - in particular, the annular exhaust is not taken into account - it includes some of the main features of a typical aeroengine: subsonic flow, different diameters at the intake and the exhaust ends and the occurence of various flow velocities at the exhaust end to account for the effects of a jet. Numerical examples are given.
